Greens go top

Slough Town 1, Holmer Green 3

HOLMER Green Youth team took over from Town at the top of the table on Tuesday with their fourth successive league win, writes John Anderson.

Although missing the injured Jack Andrews, and resting the prolific Alex MacDonald (subsititute) the Greens still had the invention and fire-power to win this game.

It was Slough however who took the lead when communication between the Holmer ‘keeper and his defence broke down on 12 minutes, and a home forward calmly lobbed the ball into the net.

On 20 minutes Gary Pape appeared to have levelled the score when he headed home a corner at the far post. But the referee blew for a foul by Holmer somewhere else in the penalty-area.

The actual equaliser came on 41 minutes towards the end of a very even and entertaining half when Grant Kemp controlled a low left-wing cross and drove the ball under the home goalkeeper. HT 1-1

The Greens lost left-back Josh Hare early in the second half, but this did not affect their game.

The visitors went ahead on 70 minutes through Jack Kenyon, and regularly troubled the Town defence. Slough resorted to an up-field offside trap in an attempt to stop Holmer from scoring again.

But Holmer Green extended their lead in the final minute, when excellent approach work was coolly finished off by Billy Mason.
